Day in the Life

At Capital Logistics Group, I served as a Carrier Sales Intern with a weekend operations focus—where quick thinking, strong communication, and problem-solving under pressure were part of the daily routine. Here’s a breakdown of what that looked like:

Covering Loads Under Pressure

My primary responsibility at the start of the day was covering loads—finding available carriers to move our customers' freight on time and within budget. This meant negotiating rates, building relationships with drivers and dispatchers, and acting quickly when capacity was tight. Working weekends meant I had more autonomy and ownership over each shipment I booked.

Tracking & Incident Response

A core part of my job was tracking and tracing freight, making sure deliveries were progressing smoothly. If a truck broke down or was in an accident, I quickly worked to find a solution—rerouting a truck, arranging repairs, or booking a new carrier—and keeping customers informed every step of the way.

Sales Communication & Customer Service

Sales didn’t stop after booking. I maintained constant communication with both carriers and customers to ensure expectations were clear, updates were timely, and relationships stayed strong. With a weekend crew of just 2–3 people, I was often the main point of contact for urgent coverage and support.

Email Marketing via GetResponse

When the day slowed down, I used the time to support our marketing efforts—sending carrier outreach emails using GetResponse. This helped us fill loads faster during lower-volume hours and maintain strong engagement with our network.
